Responsive, Icons and Trello! Oh my!

This month we have some big news to share… Have you visited our site on your phone or tablet recently? If you have, then you already know that The Web Blend finally has a responsive design! No more hassle with having to zoom in to read some text or click a link because we’ve got it covered!

We’d like to also share that some very popular icon sets have added us to their collections. Now you can now include our icon to go along with your other popular social networking sites. Thanks to these creators!

Last but not least, we’ve created a public “board” on our favorite organizational tool, Trello, so we can collect your input and also share with you what we’re working on. Trello is an addicting tool that you’ll probably end up using for all of your other projects. Check it out and leave your feedback!

That’s it for our updates of the month! Thanks again for contributing and for your support.

Search and Discover some great content!

This month we’ve been working hard on upgrading the user’s experience on TWB. We are happy to announce a couple more items we’ve rolled out. If you haven’t noticed, there is now a search bar on the top right of the page and we’ve also added an About page.

The search will scan the titles and descriptions of the 35,000+ posts we have on the site and display the results for you in order of number of blends. We are going to continue to tweak and fine-tune the search, so if you notice anything we can improve on please let us know.

The About page gives a rundown of “what you can do here” and “what makes us awesome”. You’ll also notice that we’ve featured some of the more popular websites that are using our Blend button. If you’ve added our button to your website, just let us know and you may be the next site to be featured on our About page.

That’s it for our updates of the month! Thanks again for contributing and for your support.

Filtering and Infinite Scrolling

First of all, happy belated Mother’s day to all of our members and subscribers who are Moms - we hope you had a wonderful day!

Before we get into our new upgrades of the month, we are happy to announce that our “Keep me logged in” check box on the sign in page is fixed. It seems like a little issue but was annoying to have to log in everytime you visited us!

Our first upgrade to announce is our addition of infinite scrolling on every page. Now you’ll notice a block below the posts and above the footer that reads “Show me more”. Click this to load the next 10 posts. To go along with this release, we added an arrow to the bottom left corner of the page that will scroll you all the way back to the top of the page so click “Show me more” as much as you’d like!

Over the last couple of weeks we had thought about a better filtering system for our content. The old system would only allow you to sort by different post types, but the new filtering is way improved and we just rolled it out early this morning!

Here’s how it works. You can now sort content by what’s popular and what’s upcoming. The content on the popular tab is everything with 5 or more votes. While on the popular tab, you can sort by any type of content (All, Links, Images and Questions) along with a filter for time to show the most recent, content posted today, this week, this month, this year and all time.

On the upcoming tab, you can filter by content type and you can also filter by what’s newest, oldest, most popular and least popular. This will make it easy for you to promote good content to the front page.

That’s it for our upgrades of the month! You can see the new filtering on the home page, all of the category pages and on your own profile page. Thanks again for your contributions and let us know what you think!

One month of the new Web Blend!

It’s been a full month since The Web Blend has re-launched riding the Rails with it’s new design, and we continue to make improvements and add features. We’re happy to announce that our API is now live! If you’d like to use it to create something cool, then contact us to get an API key and you’ll be on your way.

Another highlight for this month is the addition of a new Question post type. Ask a question straight up or attach a design and get some feedback. It’s just one of many new content types we’ll be introducing in the next few months. Speaking of things coming down the pipe, we’re also wrapping up work on a content search feature and a more effective filtering mechanism on the main page and on the users profile. Stay tuned!

New Updates

We just re-launched a little less than a month ago and we already have some new improvements that we’d like to share with you. Our main goal with this relaunch is to turn TheWebBlend into a more personal community for designers and developers.

Here are some new upgrades we’ve made:

- If you’re a new user and skip uploading a profile image, we will use your Gravatar image. If you don’t have one, we’ll assign one of our flashy default avatars.
- New users will also have to verify their email address. This will dramatically reduce the amount of fake/spam users and give us much better content.
- When you comment on any posts, the author will be emailed with your comment. You can turn this off by logging into your notification settings.
- Not sure if you noticed some of our buttons weren’t working, but if you use The Shareaholic plugin, AddThis or any TWB images on your blog posts, they’re now working properly.
- Last but not least, we’re working on releasing our own API so stay tuned!
